British Parliamentary & World Schools Debate Program
What Is British Parliamentary Debate
British Parliamentary Debate (BP) is a popular university and high school debate format used in competitions like the World Universities Debating Championship. Each round features four teams—two on the Government side and two on the Opposition—with each speaker delivering a 7-minute speech. The format emphasizes logic, strategy, and impromptu speaking, as teams must stand out not only against the opposition but also among allies on the same side.
What Is World Schools Debate
World Schools Debate is a popular international debate format designed for high school students. Each debate features two teams—Proposition and Opposition—each with three speakers. The format combines elements of prepared and impromptu debating: some motions are released in advance, while others are given only an hour before the debate. Speeches focus on logical argumentation, teamwork, and persuasive delivery. Widely used in competitions like the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC), it aims to develop students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and global awareness.
