Youth Speech Institute helps middle and high school students go beyond simply “speaking well” by developing critical thinking, structured reasoning, confidence, adaptability, and leadership.
Through speech and debate, students learn to organize ideas, think under pressure, communicate clearly, and connect with an audience. Competitions are not the destination—they are a training ground for growth.
Our focus is on transferable communication skills. Students are coached not only to perform well in speech and debate, but also to become stronger thinkers and communicators for the classroom, interviews, presentations, leadership, college, and beyond.

Public Speaking & Critical Thinking
We train students to think before they speak—organizing ideas, building arguments, evaluating perspectives, and expressing complex thoughts clearly and persuasively.
Multiple Speech Pathways
Students develop across prepared speech, impromptu speech, debate, interpretive speech, humorous speech and competitive formats rather than being limited to a single event type.
Competition as Training
Tournaments provide real-world pressure, feedback, and performance experience, but the long-term goal is growth in communication, confidence, and leadership.
Four-Student Small Group
Our four-student small-group coaching format gives every student more opportunities to speak, participate, and receive personalized feedback.
A Progressive Speech Development System
Youth Speech Institute uses a structured, multi-pathway system to help students build communication skills progressively and with purpose. Students begin with foundational training across five core areas—then advance into increasingly specialized and demanding formats.
As students progress from Level 1: Speak with Courage, to Level 2: Speak with Skill, and ultimately Level 3: Speak with Impact, they develop greater fluency, confidence, analytical depth, stage presence, and adaptability. Different pathways lead into advanced formats such as persuasive and informative speaking, extemporaneous speaking, advanced debate, dramatic and prose interpretation, and after-dinner speaking.
Rather than training students for a single event, the system is designed to build a broad and transferable communication foundation—so students can think clearly, respond confidently, and communicate effectively across academic, competitive, and real-world settings.
LEVEL 1 – Speak with Courage
Build Confidence | Overcome Stage Anxiety | Learn to Stand and Speak
Level 1 focuses on helping students break through the fear barrier and develop the courage to speak in front of others. Through Basic Impromptu Speaking, introductory presentation skills, and foundational storytelling techniques, students learn to organize thoughts quickly and express ideas clearly.
Key Outcomes:
- Deliver short speeches with confidence
- Learn basic structure (Beginning–Middle–End)
- Develop presence, posture, and audience connection
- Replace hesitation with clarity and composure
This level builds the essential mindset: “I can speak — and my voice matters.”
LEVEL 2 – Speak with Skill
Structure | Style | Persuasion | Interpretation
At this stage, students begin refining the craft of communication — moving beyond speaking confidently into speaking strategically. Students learn Prepared Speech writing, stronger rhetorical tools, and the foundations of Interpretation performance (Poetry, Prose, Dramatic Interpretation).
Training includes vocal, pacing, emphasis, character portrayal, and emotional intention — enabling students to communicate with depth and style.
Key Outcomes:
- Compose structured speeches with purpose
- Use storytelling and rhetorical devices
- Bring text to life through interpretation
- Adapt tone for informative or persuasive goals
The core identity of Level 2: “Not just speaking — speaking effectively.”
LEVEL 3 – Speak with Impact
Influence | Presence | Performance | Original Expression
Level 3 prepares students to shape ideas that influence how others think and feel. Through Original Oratory and advanced performance techniques such as Humorous Speech and After-Dinner Speaking, students learn to craft messages that stay in the audience’s memory.
This level emphasizes originality, stage presence, mastery of voice and timing, and the ability to connect with diverse audiences — skills essential for leadership, interviews, media, and real-world advocacy.
Key Outcomes:
- Deliver 5–7 minute speeches with purpose and precision
- Persuade, inspire, educate, and entertain
- Develop personal style and authentic voice
- Create lasting impact through performance
Level 3 represents the transformation: “I speak — and people listen.”
Learning Outcomes and Student Development
Through our structured public speaking pathway, students gain the confidence to speak with clarity, the critical thinking skills to evaluate ideas responsibly, and the persuasive ability to advocate for meaningful change.
They develop strong communication for academic success, learn to collaborate effectively in diverse settings, and cultivate leadership qualities that allow them to influence, inspire, and make a positive impact within their schools and communities.
